STAR WARS in Concert: Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter
Every Star Wars fan in the world probably gets a shiver down your spine as soon as the familiar theme song is played, which immediately makes you think of brave heroes, the battle of good vs. evil and of course the iconic words „Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away. . .“.
After the successful screenings of the first two films Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the intergalactic journey with Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi Knights will continue throughout Germany next year: From January 2020, John Williams´ Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning music will be performed while the film is shown in full length on a big screen.
With Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi Knights in 1983, George Lucas completed the original trilogy of his Star Wars saga. Like no other film, the space epic, thought out in detail, revolutionized the Hollywood film landscape and has become a true milestone in American culture. A galactic film and sound journey awaits the audience when the third part of the science fiction saga enters the concert halls. Cult figures such as Yoda and Darth Vader, fantastic locations such as the desert planet Tatooine or the second Death Star as well as award-winning special effects continue to fascinate viewers of all ages - not least because of the spectacular soundtrack by John Williams.
In Episode VI, the situation for the Rebel Alliance comes to an inexorable head: the second, even more powerful Death Star, which is to seal their final demise, is nearing completion. While the rebels gather their forces on Moon Endor to fight the Empire, Luke Skywalker returns to the planet Dagobah to complete his training as a Jedi Knight with Master Yoda. From him he learns that he has to face his father, Darth Vader, one last time to decide on the fate of the galaxy. . .
In addition to his film music, Williams is a renowned conductor and composer of concertante works. This can also be seen in some of the themes of the Star Wars soundtrack, as Williams oriented himself on Richard Wagner and his musical idiom for some of the motifs and compositional techniques. Thus, in addition to the use of the leitmotif technique, the clearest Wagnerian reference is to be found in Luke Skywalker´s heroic theme: here one recognizes Siegfried´s horn call with its youthfully heroically rising fifth, which immediately captivates the listener emotionally.
